HURRICANE SURVIVABILITY

The Polyset® system’s first and foremost design goal was, and remains, hurricane survivability. Because of the extensive damage inflicted by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, Florida code bodies, architectural engineers and tile manufacturers sought a way to continue to offer the traditional beauty of a tile roof but improve its performance under hurricane and high-wind conditions.
The Polyset® Professional Roofing System was unique – the first of its kind. It utilizes polyurethane foam to adhere the tiles to the roof deck rather than rely on nails, screws or mortar.
While in development and refinement the Polyset® system proved itself capable of not only meeting code requirements but exceeding them. In one early test, the evaluation apparatus itself failed before reaching the Polyset® sample’s breaking point.
With varying foam paddy sizes and placements, your contractor can ‘tune’ your Polyset® roof to deliver the wind uplift resistance your location requires.
SECURE ATTACHMENT
When Polyset® is first applied to the roof deck, the paddy is in a gel-like state. This allows the foam to flow into all the irregularities on the surfaces of the roof deck and the tile. The end result is a strong, chemical bond between the tile and the roof; one that is secure and enduring. The tiles are effectively glued to the roof. And only a Polyset® roof treats each tile/paddy combination as an independent unit. Should a single tile crack or get knocked loose by airborne debris, the neighboring tiles remain firmly in place.
ZERO PENETRATIONS
Each nail or screw used in a traditional tile roof penetrates the roof deck. Each penetration is a leak just waiting to happen. In high wind conditions a traditionally fastened tile will lift off the roof deck because it’s free to move. When this happens, the force of the wind acts on the tile, essentially using it as a lever against the fastener, just like a claw hammer removing a bent nail. Over time, the fastener can enlarge the hole in the roof deck, weakening the attachment and giving water ample opportunity to find its way into your attic. Because tiles on a Polyset® roof are adhered and not fastened, the roof deck integrity isn’t compromised.
INSULATION VALUE
Polyurethane foam has one of the highest R-values of commercially available insulation. Each paddy in the Polyset® system is a thermal barrier between your roof and the outside conditions, an energy efficient first line of defense. The larger the paddy size, the greater the insulating effect. In summer, the foam paddies in a Polyset® roof will help minimize the amount of the sun’s heat reaching your roof and, in the winter, will help keep the heat locked in.
QUALIFIED APPLICATORS
Only specially trained applicators and crews are allowed to install a Polyset® roof. Once the training program is successfully completed, an applicator is awarded ‘Qualified Applicator’ status and is issued an individual ID card. Be sure to ask to see your applicator’s QA card before installation. If you have any questions regarding an applicator’s eligibility or involvement in our program, please call toll free 1.888.774.1099.
QUICK INSTALLATION
Roofers love how quickly and efficiently a Polyset® roof is installed. An applicator will often shoot a whole row of foam paddies while a tile setter swiftly follows behind. The roofer is happy because he’s more productive and you’ll be happy because your roof will be done before you know it.
ASK FOR POLYSET® BY NAME
After the viability of using polyurethane foam as a roof tile adhesive became apparent, other players entered the market. Being the originators and developers of the idea gives us unique advantages. Through testing and refinement, we know what works. From our profile-specific paddy placements to our specially formulated chemical system, Polyset® was designed to perform.
For the homeowner’s peace of mind, Polyset® is the way to go. With installations dating back to 1993, it has over a decade of proven success.
Polyset® – the first and still the best.
